Diabetes and Texas Social Security Disability
Diabetes and its complications can be the basis of social security disability benefits.
There are three classifications of Diabetes
- Type 1 diabetes is often called juvenile diabetes based upon disease onset early in file. Type 1 diabetics who disease is characterized by unstable fluctuations in blood glucose levels despite insulin therapy are often referred to a ?brittle? diabetics.
- Type 2 is the most common form of diabetes in Texas and the US and develops over a longer period of time than in Type 1 diabetes. It is often associated with obesity, and can often be controlled with diet and exercise.
- Gestational diabetes starts or is first diagnosed during pregnancy
Many do not understand the seriousness of diabetes, wrongly assuming the diabetic need only take pills or insulin to live a normal working life. Uncontrolled or poorly controlled Diabetes can lead to the serious organ damage:
- Toe, Foot or Leg Amputation
- Diabetic nephropathy (kidney failure) and resulting kidney dialysis
- Diabetic neuropathy
- Cardiovascular disease
- Diabetic retinopathy
- Diabetic Gastroparesis a type of (nerve damage in which food is delayed from leaving the stomach)
But Texas diabetics need not have these drastic health consequences in order for their diabetes to keep them from being able to work. Fatigue, irritability, numbness and pain in the hands and feet, weakness, and headaches often accompany diabetes and result in inability to work.
